Frosted Spine - Chamonix, French Alps, Winter 2024

Sometimes, you set out on an adventure with your camera, hauling heavy gear up steep winter trails, not knowing if you'll come back with anything worth keeping. This was one of those days. I had my small telescope with me, fascinated by the untouched landscape unfolding as I climbed higher. This ridge, with its jagged, dark granite streaked in white, looked like the frozen spine of the mountain itself—alive in its own way, shaped by wind and snow.

There’s something mesmerizing about these heights, far above the tree line, where no plant can survive. Up here, it’s just rock and ice, with no sign of life except the mountain breathing beneath its blanket of snow. The contrast between the dark granite and pure white snow makes it hard to tell if this is a black-and-white photo or color—it’s simply nature’s stark palette at work.

This is one of those rare shots where, even after all the effort, you come back with one image that feels special, a glimpse of something raw and timeless in the heart of the Alps.
